A modder uncovered over 1,000 unused voice lines from the Resident Evil 4 remake and Requiem, showing deeper character...

Modder Keff0 has posted videos detailing over 600 cut voice lines from the Resident Evil 4 remake and nearly 400 from Resident Evil Requiem. The findings reveal scrapped dialogue that expands on characters and connects to later series entries.

Merchant's Village reference

One notable cut line from the Resident Evil 4 remake features the Merchant. He says, "Ah, I see you're no stranger to villages. The Duke? Lad shows promise." This line likely references The Duke, the merchant character from Resident Evil Village. The source notes that The Duke has also previously quoted the RE4 Merchant's famous "What're ya buyin'?" line to protagonist Ethan Winters. Both characters share traits of seeming omnipresent and knowledgeable. Keff0 also found unused animations for the Merchant's death scene, suggesting players might have once been able to kill him during development.

Tragic infected in Requiem

The cut lines for Resident Evil Requiem provide extensive new details about the infected enemies. The source explains the Requiem T-virus strain allowed infected to retain memories and repeat familiar actions. The uncovered dialogue shows greater suffering. Burning zombies would beg for water and scream about pain. The large enemy known as Chunk would plead that he did not want to die and cry about being stressed. Some infected would even thank the player for ending their misery. The report states the existing lines conveyed tragedy, but these cut lines would have intensified that feeling.

Leon's personal stakes

Leon Kennedy's cut lines in Requiem include many spider-themed quips and combat sounds. However, a significant line occurs late in the game. As he suffers from infection and battle wounds, Leon says, "I promise I'll make it home." According to PC Gamer's analysis, this is notable for Leon's character. Since the events of Resident Evil 2, Leon has been somber. This line suggests his return to Raccoon City in Requiem was not solely a redemption mission to save Sherry Birkin. It was also an attempt to move on and live a life away from the city's shadow.

Development constraints

The source concludes that not all these lines could be included in the final games due to space constraints. The findings offer a glimpse into the richer narrative layers initially planned for both the Resident Evil 4 remake and Resident Evil Requiem.
