Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches April 8 with story DLC
Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will release on April 8, 2025, concluding the remake trilogy. The game will be followed by a Story Expansion Pass featuring episodes focused on Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth.

Square Enix has set a release date of April 8, 2025, for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The game will arrive almost exactly six years after the first part of the remake trilogy launched.
A new trailer confirmed the date and showed Cloud Strife riding a motorbike during a boss fight against a colossal Ultimate Weapon. The footage served as a highlight reel for the game's many playable characters. It also showed Zack and Aerith reuniting, though no major story beats were revealed.
The gameplay shows had an unpolished, authentic feel according to the report from Rock Paper Shotgun. Highlights include using a pet chocobo in combat, a hookshot for enhanced vertical exploration, and an in-game camera for photographing cats and other subjects. The source notes that choosing different characters to lead certain sidequests can cause the storylines to diverge.
Story Expansion Pass Details
Despite not being featured in the main shows, details emerged about a post-launch Story Expansion Pass. The pass will contain two episodes. One episode will focus on Vincent Valentine and the Turks. The other will follow Sephiroth.
Vincent is a fan-favorite character who previously starred in Dirge of Cerberus. It is unclear if his new episode will follow up on that game's events. The report expresses wariness about the Sephiroth episode, noting Square Enix has already expanded his backstory in Crisis Core and the mobile game Ever Crisis.
The Road to Conclusion
The April release puts the long-awaited conclusion to the remake trilogy firmly in sight. However, the planned DLC episodes will extend the story beyond the base game's launch.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, has previously spoken about the immense expectations surrounding the project. Leaked store listings had also suggested the game would receive a heap of DLC to help wrap up the trilogy. The subtitle 'Revelation' was chosen despite the game's central theme being 'Resolve'.
The trailer confirmed the return of beloved elements like chocobos and character-specific quests. It also introduced new mechanics aimed at deepening world exploration. Fans now have a concrete date for the main event, with additional story content to follow.
