GTA 6 Criminal Profile System Details Revealed
Leaked details outline Grand Theft Auto 6's Criminal Profile system, featuring four main states and a permanent 'shattered' status.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature a Criminal Profile system that tracks player behavior, according to details from a YouTube preview by TGG. The system includes four primary states and a fifth, irreversible condition for players who ignore it entirely.
Rockstar Games does not intend to punish players for their actions with this system. This is according to TGG's preview, which states the developer wants to avoid forcing players to grind their reputation back up to progress. The system is designed to reflect player choice without creating a moral judgment akin to Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor system.
The Four Criminal Profile States
TGG's report specifies four main behavioral states for the player characters, Jason and Lucia. These states are Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho. Maintaining a Professional rating requires restraint, specifically avoiding killing or injuring anyone unless necessary. The two protagonists can reportedly have different Criminal Profile states independently of each other.
The 'Shattered' State and Player Freedom
A fifth, permanent state called 'shattered' exists outside the main four. TGG indicated this state is for players who clearly do not wish to engage with the Criminal Profile mechanics at all. The meter visually cracks and becomes locked. Players also have the option to turn off notifications related to the Criminal Profile system, further emphasizing the non-punitive design.
System Impact and Developer Vision
Specifics on how the Criminal Profile will affect the story or world remain unclear. Sources have not confirmed if it leads to different endings or merely alters non-player character interactions. However, a comment from GTA 6 co-studio head Rob Nelson suggests player actions will have noticeable consequences.
In an interview with TGG, Nelson expressed pride in how the game's systems interconnect. "We've got a lot of very complicated systems working in an interconnected way," Nelson said. He described the design as allowing players to roleplay "as heavily or as lightly as you want." The system is built to accommodate massive carnage while letting players decide if and how they care about the impact.
The details align with a separate report from IGN but add new specifics about the states. The information originates from previews of leaked materials, as Rockstar Games has not officially detailed the mechanic. The final implementation in the released game may differ.
