Naughty Dog has finished shooting cinematic content for its next PlayStation 5 exclusive, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The developer announced the milestone on Monday, August 31, 2026, via a post on Bluesky. The studio stated, "That is a wrap on the very ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! This cast killed it!" The accompanying image showed star Tati Gabrielle in a performance capture suit wielding a prop gun. This development phase completion offers a new clue about the game's potential launch timing.

Potential Release Window

If Naughty Dog follows a schedule similar to The Last of Us Part II, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could arrive by mid-2027. The Last of Us Part II's performance capture wrapped in April 2019, and the game shipped in June 2020 after delays from an original February 2020 date. Game director Neil Druckmann cited a need for more polish as the reason, stating the team didn't have enough time to bring the entire game up to "Naughty Dog quality." Naughty Dog has not confirmed a specific date, but signs point to a release window between June and August 2027.

State of Play Speculation

The timing of the announcement is notable. It came just hours after Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a new State of Play showcase for Thursday, September 3. This has led to widespread speculation that the game will feature in the presentation, potentially offering fans their first substantial look since March 2025 and a new peek ahead of Tokyo Game Show 2026.

Game Details and Development

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a sci-fi space adventure set thousands of years in the future. Players control bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who becomes stranded on the planet Sempiria. According to the lore, no one has escaped this planet in over 600 years. The game was first announced at The Game Awards in December 2024. Development began in 2020. The soundtrack is being composed by Oscar-winning musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

With the cinematic shoot complete, focus now shifts to final polish and integration. The upcoming State of Play may provide the next official glimpse of this ambitious project.
