Kinetic Games has released the second Quality of Life update for Phasmophobia. The patch adds new Restricted maps, streamlines evidence collection, and introduces VR fixes alongside more detailed death animations.

The update is now live on PC and PlayStation. According to the developer, the Xbox release is "to follow." This Quality of Life Part 2 update follows Part 1, which launched in July with a revamped 13 Willow Street map and other gameplay tweaks.

New Maps and Gameplay Changes

A key addition is a set of new small-to-medium Restricted maps. These are condensed versions of existing large locations, designed to speed up investigations and add variety. The new Restricted maps are for Prison, Brownstone High School, and Point Hope.

Evidence collection has been streamlined. Players no longer need to manually check their in-game journal. Instead, they can see if evidence has been logged directly from their Photo Camera, Video Camera, or Sound Recorder. Faded overlays and yellow LEDs provide this information.

Evidence and ghost types selected by teammates will now also show up for the entire team. This change aims to cut down on last-minute double-checking before a hunt begins.

VR Improvements and Creepier Deaths

VR players receive specific attention in this patch. The update includes a more responsive character rig that better tracks real-world body movement. A range of community-flagged bug fixes for VR is also included.

Death animations have been made more detailed. When a player dies, their character's skin turns greyer and their eyes become mistier. Voice chat is also cut off the moment a player is killed.

Development Context and Delays

The update arrives months after Kinetic Games confirmed Phasmophobia's 1.0 launch had been delayed. The full release slipped from this year into 2027. The studio stated it was prioritizing quality over speed following a rocky reception to its previous Player Character Update.

Kinetic Games apologized for issues with that long-awaited Player Character Update. The developer admitted it "missed the mark" and "didn't deliver on our promises to you." Since then, the studio has released numerous patches and hotfixes to address problems.

Kinetic Games explained it had been working through player feedback to provide "a much better experience for everyone playing Phasmophobia." The team acknowledged reading feedback from across the community, stating, "The frustration and disappointment has been clear."
