## Roblox Under Fire: US Senate Launches Investigation Roblox, a popular online entertainment platform, has been at the center of controversy in recent years due to its massive success among minors. However, this success has also led to numerous complaints and investigations into the platform's safety measures for children. The latest development in this saga is the US Senate's decision to launch a formal investigation into Roblox's safety practices. The investigation was sparked by a letter sent to Roblox's CEO, David Baszucki, by two senators: Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Dick Durbin (D-IL). In the letter, the senators expressed their concern over Roblox's prioritization of profits and user engagement over child safety. They cited several cases of adults committing serious acts of violence and harm against minors they met through Roblox, including abuse, kidnapping, rape, and even murder. The senators also pointed to a significant increase in reported cases of suspected child exploitation, with 65,391 cases reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2025, more than double the number reported in the previous year. This has led Hawley and Durbin to warn Roblox that "the children on your platform are suffering" and that the Congress will not turn a blind eye to these issues. As part of the investigation, Roblox has been asked to provide detailed documentation on how the platform protects minors from sexual and physical abuse, bullying, and financial exploitation. The company has also been asked to preserve all records related to these issues. Roblox has until August 31 to respond to the Senate's requests, and it is possible that the company's top executives may be called to testify before Congress. In response to the investigation, Roblox has attempted to reassure the senators that the platform is committed to safety. In a statement, the company said, "Roblox is built on the foundation of safety. We do not compromise on that commitment. We look forward to sharing the facts about how we protect children on the platform." The investigation into Roblox's safety practices is a significant development in the ongoing debate over the platform's impact on minors. As the investigation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Roblox responds to the Senate's concerns and whether the company's safety measures are sufficient to protect its young users.
