Switch 2's Top Games Include Splatoon Raiders, Final Fantasy
Polygon's updated list of the best Nintendo Switch 2 games highlights a strong lineup of first-party spinoffs, major third-party ports, and enhanced

The Nintendo Switch 2's software lineup is strong over a year into its lifecycle, according to Polygon. While major first-party titles like a new Zelda or Mario platformer are absent, Nintendo has maintained a consistent release schedule of second-tier games, Switch 2 Editions of past classics, and Nintendo 64 remakes.
Third-party support is also strong. Square Enix and Capcom are heavily invested, porting major series like Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil to the platform. The console's backward compatibility also grants access to the entire Nintendo Switch library, with some older games receiving worthwhile free updates on the new hardware.
The publication updated its 'best of' list on September 15, adding Splatoon Raiders, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Big Walk, and Orbitals. The list is curated by Polygon staff, who personally recommend each title based on quality, variety, and breadth.
Splatoon Raiders and Final Fantasy Lead
Splatoon Raiders tops the list. Initially seeming like a minor co-op spinoff, the game is described as Nintendo's first full-blown looter shooter. It is an action-RPG of surprising depth that evolves from a simple level-based game into a challenging war of attrition, especially in its massive endgame.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth holds the second spot. Square Enix has been rapidly bringing its remake trilogy to Switch 2, with Rebirth arriving in June. Polygon notes the port is impressive given the vast scale of the original PS5 game. The adventure is called lavishly charismatic, though stuffed with content that can be overwhelming.
Unique Co-op Adventures
Big Walk, from the studio behind Untitled Goose Game, is a unique co-op puzzle adventure. It is labeled an raise example of the 'friendslop' genre-anarchic, physics-based hangout games. The title combines exploration, puzzles, and mischief into a beautiful wilderness journey for friends and family.
Orbitals is a straightforward two-player co-op adventure in the style of It Takes Two. Its co-op platforming design is called constantly inventive, and its 1980s anime-style presentation is described as a work of gorgeous witchcraft. It is recommended for those with a regular playing partner.
Enhanced Classics and Major Ports
Super Mario Bros. Wonder + Meetup at Bellabel Park expands the 2D platformer with a suite of multiplayer minigames, new characters, bosses, and challenge levels. While the new content is deemed mostly inessential fluff, the base game is praised as possibly the best 2D Mario since Super Mario World. It looks stunning in native 4K on Switch 2.
Resident Evil Requiem's Switch 2 version is described as pretty much uncompromised. Its day-and-date release with other platforms is welcomed. The game features dual protagonists offering both terrifying survival horror and extravagant, bloody action, with each half said to totally hit its mark.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons returns with a weighty update and an official Switch 2 Edition. New features include hotel islands, quality-of-life improvements like bulk crafting, and collaborations. The Switch 2 Edition offers exclusive mouse control and vastly improved load times, making it an essential upgrade for dedicated fans.
Demanding Ports and Inventive Sequels
Cyberpunk 2077 is presented as an ideal way to explore Night City at your own pace on Switch 2. The port holds up brilliantly despite hardware demands, with stable performance in the base game. The Switch 2's motion controls and mouse support for Joy-Con 2 are noted as effective bonuses. Performance in the Phantom Liberty expansion, however, is described as a bit dodgy.
Deltarune, the spiritual successor to Undertale, is highlighted for its inventive storytelling and clever battle system. It explores distinct civilizations themed around real-world problems, allowing for a broader variety of emotions and storytelling styles than its predecessor. The game is a playground for ideas more than a traditional story.
The list also includes quick recommendations for noteworthy Switch games that have received free updates on the Switch 2 console, though they are not considered full Switch 2 Editions.
