Rockstar announces Nopixel V closed beta for GTA 5 roleplay
Rockstar's closed beta for Nopixel V, the official GTA 5 roleplay servers, starts Sept 8. It adds new features but is invite-only for now.
Rockstar Games has announced a new version of its officially supported Grand Theft Auto V roleplaying servers. The Nopixel V closed beta will begin on September 8th, according to the developer. Access will be granted through the Rockstar Games Launcher, but only for invited players and streamers.
This news comes as the company remains silent on a PC release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. For now, Rockstar appears to be focusing its community support on the decade-old GTA 5. The developer praised the Nopixel team in a newswire post, stating they have "continually pushed the boundaries of GTA Roleplay."
What Nopixel V Adds
The update is described by Rockstar as the "next evolution" of modded roleplay. Nopixel V builds on the game's existing map with new buildings and locations for players to inhabit. A key addition is a hotel and casino complex called the Pixel.
A large section of the Cypress Flats industrial area has also been remapped. Beyond environmental changes, the update includes reworked character customization systems. It also makes pedestrians more reactive to player actions, such as being hit by a car. New jobs and roles for players to undertake have been added as well.
Limited Access for Now
The September 8th launch is strictly a closed beta. Rockstar confirms it is limited to invited participants. This includes established streamers within the GTA roleplaying community. Some of these streamers' characters have unusual names, like Dark Suckaberg and Vin Petrol.
For the vast majority of players, experiencing Nopixel V will mean watching these streams. The Rockstar Games Launcher will be the exclusive gateway for beta participants. No timeline for a wider public release has been provided.
The GTA 6 Context
Rockstar's announcement makes no mention of Grand Theft Auto VI. The source report from Rock Paper Shotgun interprets this ongoing support for GTA 5 roleplay as another sign. It suggests a PC version of GTA 6 Online is not imminent. The studio continues to cultivate its existing PC community on the older title while details on the sequel's PC launch remain absent.
