Valor Mortis will cost $40 when it launches on October 13th. The developer, One More Level, has priced its new Soulslike game below typical full-price titles due to an exceptionally crowded autumn release schedule.
The studio announced the price on X, explaining a year of internal debate. The team believes the 20-hour story campaign offers quality and fidelity comparable to full-price games. However, they acknowledged the high demand for player time and money this season.
"We have had many discussions over the past year about the price of Valor Mortis," the developer wrote. "Still, this fall is stacked and there's high demand for your time and money."
A Crowded Launch Window
Valor Mortis now releases on October 13th, a date packed with major competitors. Its launch window places it near several other anticipated games.
The game was originally scheduled for September 24th but was delayed to avoid Control Resonant. Blake Rochkind, head of publisher Lyrical Games, discussed the challenging pricing decision in an interview with The Game Business.
Publisher's Pricing Strategy
Rochkind's primary worry was that a lower price might devalue the game in players' eyes. He stated the move was intended as a confident gesture to make Valor Mortis an accessible option in a busy market.
My biggest concern was that it would send the wrong message about the game, Rochkind told host Chris Dring. We wanted to make sure that we send the right message to the consumer about why this is.
He emphasized that Valor Mortis is one of the few new intellectual properties launching this fall. This context, he argued, makes convincing players to try it even harder amidst established franchises.
Editions and Availability
Alongside the standard $40 edition, a Deluxe Edition is priced at $60. The developer promises free updates post-launch. The Deluxe Edition includes specific additional content.

Rochkind concluded that the team felt compelled to make a bold move. The worst thing we could do is not push our chips in, he said, expressing hope players would consider Valor Mortis alongside other major releases.
